Stacy Blackmen

Stacy Blackmen has a story to tell. She grew up with her two brothers and sister and got pregnant at 19. Her sons name is Michael. She comes her often with her son. Today the mom and young child are waiting on bedding, mom says, “go get you a blanket”, kid runs up and gets a Cam newton blanket. Now the blanket is not even a real blanket, it’s a throw blanket but its big enough for him; he comes back all excited, and the mom says, “you forgot to get a pillow, well go on go get you a pillow”, so he runs and gets a huge pillow that’s bigger than he is, so he got a full body pillow. Now the kid is small so he is sitting there with a full body pillow and a small blanket, and the mom says, “now make sure you don’t lose those they’re yours”, and he says, “really mom I don’t have to share” and she says,” not unless you want to”, and the kid starts jumping up and down, because he is so excited that he has his own things. While he is looking for these things me and the mom are talking and she tells me that why she likes Second Harvest and the Crisis center so much they help her out a lot and keep her son smiling.

Lance Stevenson

There is a Farmer that comes in to get the organizations scraps sometimes, and his name is Lance Stevenson. He is very interesting because he owns a porcupine farm in North Carolina, that’s a first for me. He comes randomly throughout the year asking for the company scraps and Second Harvest. He is an elderly man and drives a blue pickup truck to help him carry the extra crates the organizations gives him. They usually give him about 7 unsorted crates of food in banana crates that he uses for various reasons. One way he uses the food is to eat off of for himself and his family and he said that he is grateful to Second Harvest and thankful that they let him come by and pick up extra food crate scraps. He also said that it is begging to get harder and harder to be a farmer in America and that’s why he needs the food, because what he does grow he usually has to sell it all for the farm expenses, animal food/ upkeep, etc.
