EXUCUTIVE SUMMARY
The primary goal of the Jamil Niner Student Pantry at UNC Charlotte is to solve the problems of food insecurities at UNC Charlotte. It also serves to meet other needs of students, such as toiletries as well as professional clothes. The professional wardrobe provides students with an opportunity to dress appropriately when giving presentations and attending job interviews. Within our practicum class, our group has been assigned to the online training development plan task force.
The online training development plan team has worked diligently to create an online training site to educate potential volunteers for the Jamil Niner Student Pantry at UNC Charlotte. The pantry currently trains volunteers in personal interactions before official volunteering begins. However, in order to save time and to be overall more efficient, the pantry coordinators desire an online training portal to be developed. They believe this opportunity would make the training process less chaotic for students to comprehend, as well as more efficient for pantry coordinators to make better use of their time serving than executing multiple training sessions.
Therefore, we created a Google form site to train the potential Niner Pantry volunteers. They will watch a video and review information on Power Points, and then take a quiz testing what they learned. They will receive unlimited attempts to achieve a score of 100 on the quiz, demonstrating their understanding of all the pantry’s rules and expectations. It will populate a spreadsheet containing the students' e-mail addresses which can then be used by the pantry coordinators at check-in for the validation of the completion of their training. Our group feels that this is the best solution because it will eventually be available to everyone, launching from the Niner Pantry website. It will also be on a very user-friendly interface, allowing for quick, easy, training for students. Additionally, pantry volunteer coordinators will be able to easily determine whether or not students have achieved their training certifications.
If the pantry coordinators are satisfied by the current status of the project, no further steps need to be taken to complete implementation of the online training development plan. However, if PowerPoint information needs to be updated, if video preferences are not up to par, etc., any necessary steps therefore determined would then need to be completed to update the site in order to complete the implementation process to the pantry coordinators’ satisfaction.
In addition, the actual implementation needs to be further developed by future groups. We have compiled all of the necessary components for the training into a currently usable form, but we believe there to be more elegant ways of implementation. It will be up to the pantry and future groups as to what the implementation should be. We will need to hand off the resources and items we have collected/created for the assignment to the others so they can administer them.
Therefore, in order to compensate for the lack of an efficient training method for potential volunteers at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry at UNC Charlotte, our team developed an online training module the pantry coordinators can employ to train their volunteers with in the future. They will be able to modify the materials on the site as needed, but are now provided with a basis from which to expand in the future.
