Implementation

Our task of developing an online training unit for the Jamil Niner Student Pantry at UNC Charlotte has been fully executed. This version can be used permanently, as is in its current state, to train potential pantry volunteers. However, if desired, this training module can be alternatively viewed as a first draft, if the Niner Pantry Coordinators would prefer to substitute in a better video, an updated PowerPoint, etc. later on. If nothing else, this provides the pantry with a basis from which to branch off of for their continuation of the online training developments.

Major Tasks Completed

The major tasks completed were taking video of Sean Myhand, a pantry volunteer, as well as creating a Google form training website. The existing pantry volunteer training Power Points were applied to the site, as well as our video of the tour of the pantry with instructions on available volunteer positions. A quiz was created, testing potential volunteers’ knowledge of the rules and procedures regarding pantry volunteerism.

Feedback

Our group was given fairly free reign to develop the training site in whatever way we saw best fit to be user-friendly for students, while still ensuring their education of the pantry expectations. We have ensured that the quiz functions properly, and hope that potential pantry volunteers find it easy to maneuver and that pantry coordinators are satisfied with its gauge of potential pantry volunteers’ understanding.

Issues Encountered

In the video, there are several clips where pantry volunteers in the background were working, creating background noise for Sean Myhand to have to speak over. Our team encountered difficulties when attempting to edit out the muffling sound of packing bags, and did so to the best of our ability. This could be an improvement the pantry makes in further edits to the training site.

Further Necessary Steps to Complete Implementation

If the pantry coordinators are satisfied by the current status of the project, no further steps need to be taken to complete implementation of the online training development plan. However, if PowerPoint information needs to be updated, if video preferences are not up to par, etc., any necessary steps therefore determined would then need to be completed to update the site in order to complete the implementation process to the pantry coordinators’ satisfaction. In addition, the actual implementation needs to be further developed by future groups. We have compiled all of the necessary components for the training into a currently usable form, but we believe there to be more elegant ways of implementation. It will be up to the pantry and future groups as to what the implementation should be. We will need to handoff the resources and items we have collected/created for the assignment to the others so that they can administer them.
